Nice to know the folks at Google at trying to help out people on the go. Google announced their SMS service. You can use this service to query Google about local business listings, residential phone #’s, Froogle (product prices), definitions and snippets from Google searches (2 results). They’ve also exposed their calculator, area code lookup and zip code lookup. Of course you can also get help.
I wonder why they left out Google Groups and Google News? They could limit it to snippets from the first two results like they do for web searches. What about the specialized searches? Those would be helpful over SMS because it would require even less typing.
If you wanted to be really up to date how about tying in Google Alerts into SMS. Along the same lines it would be over board to have a PubSub subscription feed from RSS to SMS, so you get SMS test messages every time PubSub found a feed entry that matched your criteria.
