It is pretty much official, we’ll be moving to Utah this summer assuming the deal on the house closes the way we expect it to. We don’t have a move day yet, probably July if everything works out.
We did a lot of research online before going out there to look at homes. I used two websites for this, BlueRoof.com and UtahRealEstate.com. I found that BlueRoof was really good for locating potential homes in a specific area (thank you Google Maps mashup), but didn’t always have the level of detail about each home that Utah Real Estate did. Fortunately Utah Real Estate did something really smart, they made it easy to view information about a home based on the MLS number. Just go to utahrealestate.com/some_mls_number_here and you’re there. Most of their site isn’t very pretty, but at least they got the clean URL thing going for them.
If you are pondering a similar move, be aware that the real estate and consumer protection laws in Utah don’t appear to be nearly as thorough as California, so do your homework and keep a close on eye the details.

I found your blog in my search for online marketing tips for real estate. Thanks for giving a review of those 2 sites and what you found helpful. My question is, did you use a Realtor you met from either of those 2 sites?
My Realtor is also my Mother-in-Law, so no, I did not meet her from either of the two sites I mentioned 🙂
Dude, leaving the job wasn’t enough, eh? You had to go and leave the whole freakin’ STATE?!? Well, good luck to you and yours. Hopefully we’ll get our remodel done (and throw a party!) before you leave.
[…] was fun, it was my first tech outing since moving to Utah. It’s good to get out from coding in the home office for some face to face interaction. […]
Blue Roof is not a trustworthy website. It is full of misinformation and does not give a clear picture of what is truly going on. Greg, the administrator/owner, is a dishonest person and should no be trusted
@Econ –
I don’t know anything about the folks behind the blueroof.com site. I do like the interface though for searching for homes.
We used BlueRoof to find our home and we have been so impressed with them. We would recommend them to anyone. We didn’t work with Greg directly but he was really helpful and answered our calls late on a Sunday night (when we planned on leaving a message) and spent a good ten minutes just explaining some things for us.
We really liked the other people we worked with that they referred us to also. I just want to share our experience.
