I’ve long-maintained that there’s a place for a shell-like environment for oft-used Web sites. I used to work in a green-screen 15 years ago, and the speed people could operate it is flat impossible with a GUI.

Not sure if it’s worth having the whole site be a shell, but I think having shell that is one component of a site could very useful.
I remember those green screen days. That was when having a color monitor meant it was amber instead of green.
