I recently ran into a situation where I was using screen share to connect to a Mac and couldn’t get the DVD tray to open. What I really wanted was an option to click on that would open and close the tray. Turns out there is one, it just isn’t enabled by default.
You can add a tray open/close item to the menu bar in Mac OS X in just a few steps:
– Go to System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras
in Finder
– Double click on Eject.menu
Done. You now have a menu item that will open and close the DVD tray on your Mac.
