Comment Spam Attack

This afternoon my blog was attacked by a comment spammer. In less than 10 minutes 30 spam comments showed up across several entries. Cleaning them up was pretty simple (kudos to WordPress), only took a minute or two. I’ve had the random spam comment here and there, but this was an obvious attack of comment spam. I’d always relied on being a fairly unknown site to avoid these types of things. 🙁

Wait, looks like more of them are coming as I type this. Yep, just deleted another 8 of them. Looks like all of them came from 213.69.149.153, which was assigned via RIPE. Question is, should I bother contacting the person listed in the whois record or just forget about and ban the IP?

Update 12:45 am 18 Sep 2004: Looks like the attack continued again last night, another 30 spam comments came in between 6:44 pm and 6:57 pm. Looks like the same person (used the same email), using a different IP address though: 200.67.165.180. This guy gets around, this IP was assigned by LacNIC (Latin America).
