Friday the 13th

I’m not one to normally make a big deal about Friday the 13th. But this one is going to be different, for me at least. Friday, April 13th 2007 is my last day at the Office of Water Programs (OWP) at CSU Sacramento. This will be a big change for me, a lot has happened over the last 8 years that I’ve worked there.

Everyone at OWP has been really nice about this transition. A big thank you to everyone at OWP that have made working there an enjoyable experience. The timing of my last day did end up being kind of strange since the 13th is also the birthday of my boss. Sorry Jim, I didn’t know it was going to work like that. 🙂

So at this point you are probably wondering what I’ll be doing after the 13th. On Monday (April 16) I’ll be working full time for Automattic, the folks behind WordPress (and WordPress.com). I’m excited to be working on new stuff with Matt and company.

I suspect I’ll be talking a bit more about what I’ll be doing in the future as more of it becomes public. I did some searching and all of the pieces are already out there, mentioned on different websites and indexed by Google. If you knew how to connect them all together you’d already know what I’ll be working on 🙂

Friday I’ll be wrapping things up at OWP and on Monday diving into Automattic.

NOOOOOOOOoooooo! Actually it’s been great working with you and I wish you the best of luck on your new job/endeavor. Although I’ll miss the wide range of topics discussed in the IT cubes (daily), it’s great to see you moving onto bigger and better things.

Best of luck man. 🙂

Well, Jim seems to be handling that well…

Oh, just wondering if anyone has told you about the mandatory “speech” required before your resignation is “accepted”, otherwise known as a “filibuster”. Which means you must maintain an ongoing uninterrupted oratory outlining and explaining why you are leaving while everyone objects/taunts/congratulates/or encourages you to stay. Well, just thought I should mention it because so few people read the small print.

Wow! I wish my boss was that gracious when I left my last company in order to come to China.

Congratulations on the job change. I am sure that the World of WordPress will be better for it.

Welcome to the team! Matt and Toni and company are excited to have you on board. I look forward to hearing about your work.
phil.
