I haven’t gotten into the habit of reading the local news yet for the Salt Lake City area, but I have been to the Deseret News web site a few times. It used to a fairly ugly run of the mill news paper site, this is what it looked like back in May of this year, thanks to way back machine. At some point recently (must have been with in the last month or two) it had a major make over and it looks much, much better.
From the comments in the HTML it looks like they are still using Vignette and the site can still be pretty slow at times. But compare it with the design of The Salt Lake Tribune and DN looks pretty darn modern.
