Consumer group wants to tax Netflix to pay for rural broadband

Consumer group wants to tax Netflix to pay for rural broadband – doesn’t make any sense to me. This would be like taxing people extra who use the most long distance minutes, even though they already pay to use those minutes.

Unless they’re subsidized, landline telephone service is on the decline so the FCC (thanks FDR) need to find something else to regulate. Why isn’t there ever a proposal to eliminate these old bureaucracies?

By the way, I am saving close to $35 on federal taxes since I switched to FiOS voice in early 2010. Apparently that’s an unregulated service. Shhh…

I don’t really have a problem with subsidies and regulations as methods to get things done. But I do think they need to have clear lines and boundaries, not expanded “just because”.
